The University of Adelaide, also known as the 'University of Adelaide', is a large public comprehensive university founded in 1874. It is located in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, and is a five-star university. It is also one of the six sandstone universities in Australia.
The University of Adelaide has produced a total of five Nobel laureates - two physics laureates, two physiology and medicine laureates, and one literature laureate, three of whom are Adelaide students and two are faculty members. In addition, the University of Adelaide has produced 108 Rhodes Prize winners and one Australian Prime Minister - Julia Gillard, Australia's first female Prime Minister.
The University of Adelaide is located in the city center of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. Adelaide is located on the banks of the Dorennes River and is the commercial and cultural center of South Australia, as well as the fifth largest city in Australia. The entire city is planned in a chessboard shape, with spacious streets and public squares between building areas, and parks surrounding the city. Adelaide is renowned for its religious freedom, political openness, and civil liberties.
