The University of Queensland (UQ) is a large public comprehensive university founded in 1909 and located in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is a five-star university. The main campus of the University of Queensland is located in the St. Lucia district of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, covering an area of 114 hectares. The campus is adjacent to the Brisbane River and is only 7 kilometers away from the central business district of Brisbane.
The University of Queensland is one of the eight and six Sandstone Universities in Australia. The campus of the University of Queensland has a large number of Jacaranda garden trees, and the flowering season is from September to October every year, with a stunning sea of indigo flowers.
The charter of the University of Queensland in its early days (1909) was modeled after the charter of Birmingham University, one of the red brick universities in the UK. The University of Birmingham, established in 1900, was the latest modern university in the world at that time and the first university in the UK to obtain a Royal Charter in the 20th century.
